Attacking Battle Stats

Ferocity

The ability to press the attack in combat. This helps determine the likelihood of a successful strike when attacking, and how much damage is dealt as a result.

Striking

The ability, based on physical strength and weaponry, to land physical blows in combat. This helps determine the likelihood of wounding the opponent, and how much damage is dealt as a result.

Magic

Ability to channel divine powers to enhance attacks in combat. This helps determine how much damage is dealt as the result of a successful strike.

Stamina

The ability to maintain strength throughout a battle. This helps determine how much damage is dealt as the result of a successful strike.

Agility

The ability to maneuver into striking position. This determines the likelihood of successfully engaging the opponent in combat, in order to strike.

Accuracy

The ability to target and strike an opponent from range. This determines the likelihood of successfully landing a ranged strike.

Piercing

The capacity, based on power and weaponry, of a ranged strike to inflict harm. This determines how much damage is dealt by a successful ranged strike.

Defensive Battle Stats

Valor

The ability to stand strong against enemy attacks. This determines the likelihood of the opponent’s strike landing, and helps mitigate the damage dealt.

Armor

The ability, based on natural features or protective gear, to deflect strikes. This determines the likelihood of an opponent’s attack wounding.

Spirit

Ability to resist harm using innate or divine power. This helps determine the likelihood of withstanding damage from an opponent’s attack.

Elusiveness

The ability to avoid attacks and regain the initiative. This helps determine the likelihood of avoiding engagement with an attacking opponent.

Toughness

The natural ability to withstand harm. This helps determine the likelihood of avoiding damage when struck by an attacking opponent.

Dexterity

The ability to dodge a ranged strike. This helps determine the likelihood of being struck from afar by an attacking opponent.

Deflection

The capacity, based on power or armor, to withstand a ranged strike. This determines the likelihood of avoiding damage when struck from range.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does your bracket seeding work?

In a word, imperfectly. But that’s part of the fun with these things – seed lines will always be somewhat debatable in large tournaments like this. That being said, we want to get it as correct and as fair as humanly possible. So to get a rough baseline, we totaled all the battle stats for each character, and ranked them by total stats, 1 to 48. Next, we simulated a series of round robin tournaments (everyone plays everyone else) to get a “body of work” for each character. Using those outcomes as our “regular season,” we then compared the results against the baseline rankings, moving characters up or down, each according to their record.

Can I fill out my own bracket and track results?

This feature is coming soon! We have big plans for this, but if we’re going to build it, we want to build it right. Unfortunately we’re not quite there yet. Stay tuned!

Who did your artwork and design work?

All of our character and logo artwork is original. There is so much amazing artwork in the Tolkien community, and we fully acknowledge that most of it puts us to shame. In fact, we hesitated on whether to use character artwork at all – as a big part of most RPG’s or tabletop games is imagining your own characters. But in the end, the creative urge to reimagine and re-portray each character using only the original source material (the books) proved too strong to resist. Huge shout out to AARMADA Entertainment for partnering with us on graphic design and digital work.
